Most exam-day anxiety comes from uncertainty about the process rather than the content. Here is what the day actually looks like.
Before you go
Confirm your registration details and the identification requirements with your regulator well in advance — not the night before. Arrive early. Candidates who arrive late are commonly refused entry, and a missed sitting costs both the fee and weeks of waiting.
The format
You will answer 160 to 170 multiple-choice questions. Each has one best answer among four options. There is no penalty for guessing, so never leave a question blank.
Pacing
Work out your pace before you sit down. With roughly 165 questions, spending more than about ninety seconds on any single item will put you under pressure later. Case-based sets take longer to read but the linked questions come faster once you know the scenario.
If a question stalls you, choose your best option, flag it, and move on. An unanswered question you meant to return to is the most expensive mistake in the room.
Reading the question properly
Most wrong answers come from misreading, not from ignorance. Watch for the words that decide the answer: *first*, *best*, *initial*, *priority*, *most appropriate*. Several options may be reasonable nursing actions — the question is asking which comes first.
When two answers both look right
They often will. Ask which one addresses the most immediate risk to the client. Airway, breathing and circulation outrank comfort, teaching and documentation almost every time. Assessment usually precedes intervention unless the situation is immediately life-threatening.
Afterwards
Results are not immediate. Use the waiting period to rest rather than to relitigate individual questions — you will not remember them accurately, and it changes nothing.
